The Detroit Red Wings beat the Columbus Blue Jackets last night 7-2 to clinch their 21st straight playoff appearance.

According to the Detroit News, the Wings consecutive playoff streak is the longest currently of any of the four major North American professional leagues.

The Wings got goals from Tomas Holmstrom (2), Jiri Hudler, Nicklas Lidstrom, Brad Stuart and Pavel Datsyuk. Gustav Nyquist also scored. It was his first NHL goal. Henrik Zetterberg and Todd Bertuzzi each had four assists.

Holmstrom said even though Columbus is a last place team, every game is important right now as the regular season winds down. The Wings are still fighting to win the Central Divison and Western Conference and start the playoffs at home.
