New Movie Releases: March 2016
Spring is in the air, and so are a few highly-anticipated new movie releases as we begin our climb to the eventful blockbuster days of summer. In addition to big-budget outings like Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice and 10 Cloverfield Lane, next month also brings exciting indies like The Lobster, Krisha and Midnight Special. Read on for our guide to March’s new movie releases.
March 4
Zootopia: Directed by Byron Howard, Rich Moore and Jared Bush. Starring Idris Elba, Jason Bateman and Ginnifer Goodwin. In a city of anthropomorphic animals, a fugitive con artist fox and a rookie bunny cop must work together to uncover a conspiracy.
London Has Fallen: Directed by Babak Najafi. Starring Gerard Butler, Morgan Freeman and Charlotte Riley. In London for the Prime Minister's funeral, Mike Banning discovers a plot to assassinate all the attending world leaders.
Whiskey Tango Foxtrot: Directed by Glenn Ficarra and John Requa. Starring Tina Fey, Alfred Molina and Margot Robbie. A journalist recounts her wartime coverage in Afghanistan and Pakistan.
Desierto: Directed by Jonas Cuaron. Starring Gael Garcia Bernal, Jeffrey Dean Morgan and Alondra Hidalgo. A group of people trying to cross the border from Mexico into the United States encounter a man who has taken border patrol duties into his own racist hands.
The Other Side of the Door: Directed by Johannes Roberts. Starring Sarah Wayne Callies, Jeremy Sisto and Javier Botet. A family lives an idyllic existence abroad until a tragic accident takes the life of their young son. The inconsolable mother learns of an ancient ritual that will bring him back to say a final goodbye. She travels to an ancient temple, where a door serves as a mysterious portal between two worlds. But when she disobeys a sacred warning to never open that door, she upsets the balance between life and death.
Knight of Cups (Limited): Directed by Terrence Malick. Starring Christian Bale, Cate Blanchett and Natalie Portman. A screenwriter living in LA tries to make sense of the strange events occurring around him.
The Boy and the Beast (Limited): Directed by Mamoru Hosoda. Starring Bryn Apprill, Kumiko Aso and Morgan Berry. When Kyuta, a young orphan living on the streets of Shibuya, stumbles into a fantastic world of beasts, he's taken in by Kumatetsu, a gruff, rough-around-the-edges warrior beast who's been searching for the perfect apprentice.
The Wave (Limited): Directed by Roar Uthaug. Starring Kristoffer Joner, Thomas Bo Larsen and Ane Dahl Torp. Even though awaited, no-one is really ready when the mountain pass of Åkneset above the scenic narrow Norwegian fjord Geiranger falls out and creates a 85 meter high violent tsunami. A geologist is one of those caught in the middle of it.
Cemetery of Splendor (Limited): Directed by Apichatpong Weerasethakul. Starring Jenira Pongpas, Banlop Lomnoi and Jarinpattra Rueangram. A lonely, middle-aged housewife aids a wounded soldier suffering from “sleeping sickness,” only to find herself captured by a hallucination that brings bizarre visions, phantoms and romance.
Me Him Her (Limited): Directed by Max Landis. Starring Haley Joel Osment, Alia Shawkat and Luke Bracey. 20-something drifter Corey arrives in Los Angeles to help his semi-famous TV star friend Brendan take his first steps out of the closet.
Camino (Limited): Directed by Josh C. Waller. Starring Zoe Bell, Nacho Vigalondo and Francisco Barreiro. In the jungles of Colombia, a photojournalist captures the truth behind a group of missionaries who may not be what they seem.
March 11
10 Cloverfield Lane: Directed by Dan Trachtenberg. Starring Mary Elizabeth Winstead, John Goodman and John Gallagher Jr. Waking up from a car accident, a young woman finds herself in the basement of a man who says he's saved her life from a chemical attack that has left the outside uninhabitable.
The Brothers Grimsby: Directed by Louis Leterrier. Starring Sacha Baron Cohen, Penelope Cruz and Mark Strong. A new assignment forces a top spy to team up with his football hooligan brother.
The Young Messiah: Directed by Cyrus Nowrasteh. Starring Sean Bean, David Bradley and Jonathan Bailey. Tells the story of Jesus Christ at age seven as he and his family depart Egypt to return home to Nazareth. Told from his childhood perspective, it follows young Jesus as he grows into his religious identity.
The Lobster (Limited): Directed by Yorgos Lanthimos. Starring Colin Farrell, Rachel Weisz and John C. Reilly. In a dystopian near future, single people, according to the laws of The City, are taken to The Hotel, where they are obliged to find a romantic partner in 45 days or are transformed into beasts and sent off into the woods.
Hello My Name Is Doris (Limited): Directed by Michael Showalter. Starring Sally Field, Max Greenfield and Beth Behrs. A self-help seminar inspires a sixty-something woman to romantically pursue her younger co-worker.
Eye in the Sky (Limited): Directed by Gavin Hood. Starring Helen Mirren, Alan Rickman and Aaron Paul. A military officer in command of a drone operation to capture terrorists in Kenya sees her mission escalate from "capture" to "kill" just as a nine-year-old girl enters the kill zone.
Remember (Limited): Directed by Atom Egoyan. Starring Christopher Plummer, Martin Landau and Dean Norris. With the aid of a fellow Auschwitz survivor and a hand-written letter, an elderly man with dementia goes in search of the person responsible for the death of his family.
Lolo (Limited): Directed by Julie Delpy. Starring Julie Delpy, Dany Boon and Vincent Lacoste. Violette, a 40-year-old workaholic with a career in the fashion industry falls for a provincial computer geek, Jean-Rene, while on a spa retreat with her best friend.
Creative Control (Limited): Directed by Benjamin Dickinson. Starring Benjamin Dickinson, Nora Zehetner and Dan Gill. In near future Brooklyn, an ad executive uses a new Augmented Reality technology to conduct an affair with his best friend's girlfriend...sort of.

Miracles From Heaven: Directed by Patricia Riggen. Starring Jennifer Garner, Queen Latifah and Martin Henderson. A young girl suffering from a rare digestive disorder finds herself miraculously cured after surviving a terrible accident.
March 18
The Divergent Series: Allegiant: Directed by Robert Schwentke. Starring Shailene Woodley, Theo James and Miles Teller. Beatrice Prior and Tobias Eaton venture into the world outside of the fence and are taken into protective custody by a mysterious agency known as the Bureau of Genetic Welfare.
The Little Prince: Directed by Mark Osborne. Starring Jeff Bridges, Rachel McAdams and Paul Rudd. A little girl lives in a very grown-up world with her mother, who tries to make sure she's prepared for it. Her neighbor, The Aviator, introduces the girl to an extraordinary world where anything is possible, the world of The Little Prince.
Pee-wee’s Big Holiday (Streaming): Directed by John Lee. Starring Paul Reubens, Joe Manganiello and Alia Shawkat. A fateful meeting with a mysterious stranger inspires Pee-wee Herman to take his first-ever holiday in this epic story of friendship and destiny.
Midnight Special (Limited): Directed by Jeff Nichols. Starring Michael Shannon, Joel Edgerton and Kirsten Dunst. A father and son go on the run after the dad learns his child possesses special powers.
The Preppie Connection (Limited): Directed by Joseph Castelo. Starring Thomas Mann, Lucy Fry and Sam Page. A student at a private school uses his connections to establish a drug trafficking network at his school.
The Confirmation (Limited): Directed by Bob Nelson. Starring Clive Owen, Maria Bello and Patton Oswalt. A struggling alcoholic father spends a weekend with his skeptical son, and the two bond over a series of misfortunes.
The Program (Limited): Directed by Stephen Frears. Starring Ben Foster, Chris O'Down and Guillaume Canet. An Irish sports journalist becomes convinced that Lance Armstrong's performances during the Tour de France victories are fueled by banned substances. With this conviction, he starts hunting for evidence that will expose Armstrong.
My Golden Days (Limited): Directed by Arnaud Desplechin. Starring Mathieu Amalric, Quentin Dolmaire and Lou Roy-Lecollinet. Paul is preparing to leave Tajikistan, while thinking back on his adolescent years. His childhood, his mother's madness, the parties, the trip to the USSR where he lost his virginity, the friend who betrayed him and the love of his life.
The Bronze (Limited): Directed by Bryan Buckley. Starring Melissa Rauch, Gary Cole and Sebastian Stan. A foul-mouthed former gymnastics bronze medalist must fight for her local celebrity status when a new young athlete's star rises in town.
Krisha (Limited): Directed by Trey Edward Shults. Starring Olivia Grace Applegate, Bryan Casserly and Alex Dobrenko. Krisha returns for Thanksgiving dinner after 10 years away from her family, but past demons threaten to ruin the festivities.
March 25
Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice: Directed by Zack Snyder. Starring Ben Affleck, Henry Cavill and Gal Gadot. Fearing the actions of Superman are left unchecked, Batman takes on Superman, while the world wrestles with what kind of a hero it really needs. With Batman and Superman fighting each other, a new threat, Doomsday, is created by Lex Luthor. It's up to Superman and Batman to set aside their differences along with Wonder Woman to stop Lex Luthor and Doomsday from destroying Metropolis.
My Big Fat Greek Wedding 2: Directed by Kirk Jones. Starring Nia Vardalos, John Corbett and John Stamos. After spending most of their time focusing on their troubling teenage daughter, Toula and Ian are facing marital problems while also having to deal with yet another Greek wedding — this time, even bigger and fatter.
The Disappointments Room: Directed by D.J. Caruso. Starring Kate Beckinsale, Michaela Conlin and Marcia DeRousse. A mother and her young son release unimaginable horrors from the attic of their rural dream home.
I Saw the Light (Limited): Directed by Marc Abraham. Starring Tom Hiddleston, Elizabeth Olsen and David Krumholtz. The story of the country-western singer Hank Williams, who in his brief life created one of the greatest bodies of work in American music. The film chronicles his rise to fame and its tragic effect on his health and personal life.
Get a Job (Limited): Directed by Dylan Kidd. Starring Miles Teller, Anna Kendrick and Alison Brie. Life after college graduation is not exactly going as planned for Will and Jillian who find themselves lost in a sea of increasingly strange jobs. But with help from their family, friends and coworkers they soon discover that the most important (and hilarious) adventures are the ones that we don't see coming.
Baskin (Limited): Directed by Can Evrenol. Starring Muharrem Bayrak, Mehmet Akif Budak and Fadik Bulbul. A squad of unsuspecting cops goes through a trapdoor to Hell when they stumble upon a Black Mass in an abandoned building.
Born to Be Blue (Limited): Directed by Robert Budreau. Starring Ethan Hawke, Carmen Ejogo and Callum Keith Rennie. A re-imagining of jazz legend Chet Baker's musical comeback in the late ’60s.
Mia Madre (Limited): Directed by Nanni Moretti. Starring John Turturro, Margherita Buy and Giulia Lazzarini. Margherita, a director in the middle of an existential crisis, has to deal with the inevitable and still unacceptable loss of her mother.
