Jennifer Berrigan, Mott Community College's American Sign Language teacher is going for the gold in the Winter Deaflympics in Slovakia. mLive.com says:

“My family has always been very supportive,” Berrigan said through an interpreter. “They’ve always said you can do anything other people can, even if you might have to work a little harder than the average person.”

“It’s a world experience,” she added about being chosen among athletes around the country to compete with the eight-person snowboarding team. “I feel like, ‘Wow, I made it.’ ”

Berrigan of Highland Township earned her spot following years of training in Colorado. She will compete in the halfpipe and boardercross events.

The team director says that they only pick competitors that are medal worthy, and that Jennifer is a fierce competitor.
