Michigan Woman Goes Free After 18+ Years in Prison for Possession of Boyfriend’s Drugs [VIDEO]
A Michigan woman left prison on Thursday (1/27) after serving nearly 19 years on charges related to her boyfriend's drug dealing business.
Tracy Cowan's sentence was commuted by Michigan Governor Gretchen Whitmer after Rick Wershe, also known as White-Boy Rick worked with authorities to secure her release.
Sentenced on Charges Related to Her Boyfriend's Drug Business
Cowan was sentenced to up to 40 years in prison back in 2003 when over 650 grams of cocaine, along with marijuana and guns were found in her home. The drugs were presumed to belong to her boyfriend and the father of her children, notorious drug lord Richard "Maserati Rick" Carter who is said to have been murdered by a rival gang in 1988.

Wershe tells the TV station that Cowan's release has been a long time coming.
"She was a non-violent drug offender. She's been in here almost 19 years, so we came to get her with her daughters and her family, so it's pretty exciting," Wershe said. "I was given a second chance, so I want to help them get a second chance."
Now Cowan and Wershe plan to work together to help others.
"Over incarceration, over punishment, that's what we're going to work on together," Wershe said. "People that shouldn't be incarcerated for as long as they are."
