Gov. Gretchen Whitmer is expected to reopen Michigan's construction industry on May 7, according to Crains Detroit.

Both residential and commercial construction have been shut down in the state since the "Stay Home, Stay Safe" order went into place on March 24. Many in the state have been pressuring Whitmer to reopen the construction industry.

MIRSnews.com first reported on the reopening of the industry Monday night. A representative from the governor's office told WOOD-TV8 that she will sign the order to reopen construction businesses Wednesday.

As new cases of COVID-19 in Michigan begin to decline, officials have started loosening restrictions on certain businesses. Last week, greenhouses, golf courses, and landscaping companies were allowed to resume business.
