Matthew Perry Doesn’t Remember Filming Three Seasons of ‘Friends’
Matthew Perry's longstanding battle with substance abuse has been highly documented in the media. But while many people may be aware that he battled with drugs and alcohol addiction, few realize just how much it impacted him during his time on the massively popular television show Friends.
Actor James Nesbitt asked Perry about his least favorite Friends episode during a recent interview with BBC 2. Perry responded candidly: “I think the answer is ‘I don’t remember three years of it.’ A little bit of the time, I was pretty out of it, yeah…Anyway, my answer to your question is somewhere between seasons three and six."
Perry famously battled an addiction to both alcohol and painkillers during his time on the popular sitcom, though he is now sober.
And for those fans who expressed their upset (loudly on social media) with Perry when play auditions caused him to miss a mini-reunion with his fellow Friends cast when they taped an appearance for the NBC special Must See TV: A Tribute to James Burrows, fear not: Perry says he'd be up for a proper reunion.
"I think the actors would actually be open to it," he said. "We would be open to doing something, some kind of maybe TV special. I don't know about a movie. It's kind of tough, because we ended on such a high note. We don't want to ruin it. So we'd want to be really careful. Sometimes when you do a reunion, it's terrible and sort of ruins the memory of the good show that you've done before. So we'd have to be careful."
Sadly, the show’s co-creator, Marta Kauffman, recently squashed all hope of a future Friends reunion.
“There will never be a Friends reunion movie,” she said to E! News earlier this month. “Friends was about that time in your life when your friends are your family and once you have a family, there’s no need anymore.”
