It's been on a rising trend and chances are either you or someone you know vapes. However, there has been a lot of backlash against e-cigs and vapes due to the rising number of respiratory illnesses, including here in Michigan.

In a news release from the Michigan Department of Health & Human Services (MDHHS), they are currently investigating six cases that could be related to vaping.

All cases were diagnosed in the last 60 days and all had to be hospitalized for "severe respiratory illness." The ages of those who were sick ranged from 19 to 39.

The state's epidemiologist commented on the dangers of e-cigarettes and vapes.

...can contain harmful chemicals that can result in damage to a user’s lungs, heart or other body systems.

Over 200 cases related to vaping have been reported in 23 states.

If you use an e-cig or any similar product watch for the following symptoms: shortness of breath, chest pain, cough, fever and/or nausea and vomiting.

Even the CEO of the popular e-cigarette brand, Juul, is advising people who have never smoked cigarettes (or aren't addicted to nicotine) to NOT use his product. In a report from Gizmodo, he is currently being investigated by the Federal Trade Commission for his company's marketing practices as Juul's have become very popular with underage teens.
