Repair crews are scheduled to begin work today (Monday, August 11) on the I-69 overpass at Irish Road in Davison Township. According to MDOT, which is partnering with the Genesee County Road Commission, the Michigan Department of Environmental Quality and Davison Township officials, work will include pavement removal, retaining wall construction, reconstructing a nonmotorized path along the east side of Irish Road and power washing to remove soot and bridge painting.

The area has been known to have a harsh smell since a December 2013 incident in which a semi crashed through the guardrail. The tanker was carrying thousands of gallons of crude oil that burned. Both lanes on northbound Irish Road will be closed down to move the project along more quickly which is expected to be completed in November.
