The annual Back to The Bricks week-long festival officially kicked off this week in downtown Flint. In order to keep a safe and family-friendly atmosphere, the Flint Police Department will issue a special events curfew ordinance that starts this evening.

Who does the curfew affect?

The curfew affects any child under 17 years old. According to ABC 12, any children under 17 years old must be off the streets from 6 p.m. until 6 a.m. Tuesday through Saturday this week in the curfew area unless they are accompanied by an adult.

Where are the curfew areas?

The curfew area is bounded by 5th Avenue to I-69 and Chavez Drive to Church Street. If a child under the age of 17 is within that area they must adhere to the curfew ordinance.

What happens if a child violates the curfew?

If a child under the age of 17 is caught violating the curfew ordinance, the parents of that child could face a $250 fine.

It boils down to the fact that kids can be a problem, especially when traveling in groups. The city just wants to keep everyone safe and not have any issues.  This curfew ordinance is meant to ensure that everyone can feel safe at Back to The Bricks.

During the five-day event, people line the streets for the "Rolling Cruises” as the parade route stretches from the red bricks of Saginaw Street in downtown Flint to the city of Grand Blanc. On Friday, there will be a car show and a Live Concert featuring The Motortown All-Stars, on Saginaw Street across from UofM Pavilion at 7 pm in Downtown Flint.
