On Thursday, Flint Mayor Karen Weaver announced the appointment of a new city attorney.

Stacy Erwin Oakes will take over the position that had been vacant since December when Peter Bade resigned. In a news release, Weaver said "Stacy is held in high regard by the legal community. She is a proven consumer protection advocate and brings with her an extensive knowledge of the legislative process and municipal government."

Oakes has a degree from Michigan State University College of Law while working for the Michigan Dept. of Civil Rights. She was later appointed to the Michigan Attorney General's Office where she served as Assistant Attorney General.

According to the news release, Oakes is well aware of the challenges facing Flint and is up for the challenge.  She said "I am very excited to be able to serve a resilient and emerging community like Flint. I look forward to working with the City Council, city staff and residents."
