Short-Lived Flint Eyewear Company is Closing Up Shop for Good
The last thing Flint needs right now is another company going out of business. Unfortunately, that's exactly what's happening with a company, that only a few years ago was making headlines.
Genusee Eyewear has decided to call it quits after four years of business. The eyeglasses company was born out of the Flint water crisis back in 2018. They created a nice buzz after announcing they would be making designer eyeglasses out of recycled plastic water bottles.

Genusee founder & CEO, Ali Rose Van Overbeke made the announcement recently on social media.
I write this update with a heavy heart. It’s time to say goodbye. Our last day in business will be September 30, 2022.The uncontrollable headwinds of the current macro conditions seem too strong for our small business to continue on.
I never imagined writing those words when we launched four years ago. It has been both a blessing and a curse to be ahead of the curve when it comes to sustainability and circularity in eyewear.
Even though more than 12,000 pairs of Genusee glasses have been sold, it just wasn't enough to keep them afloat. Overbeke said the increasing costs across their supply chain, labor, and customer acquisition costs, all contributed to the undesired end result.
If you were a big fan of their eyewear products, you can still make a purchase from their website while supplies last.
You have to admit, it was a very clever idea...especially the name.
