Emergency Manager Michael Brown announced the appointment of Barnett Jones as Public Safety Administrator for the City of Flint late Friday afternoon. Jones will be a contractual employee and will receive a salary of $135,000 with limited benefits and no health care.

Jones has over 37 years of law enforcement experience and is also a certified firefighter. He has served as Safety Services Administrator in Ann Arbor overseeing police, fire and emergency management services.  He's also served with the Inkster Police Department, both the Oakland And Wayne County Sheriff's Departments, and has served as Chief of Police in both the cities of Sterling Heights and Ann Arbor.

Jones has extensive experience in police holding facility management, organizational behavior, community involvement, law enforcement technologies and strategic and tactical planning. He has worked with various law enforcement agencies in developing strategies in implementation in these areas and these skills will be a great asset to the City of Flint.
