A press conference addressing the successful launch  of the Fair Food Network's Double Up Food Bucks Program at the Flint Farmers' Market was held yesterday. The program - which is unique to the state of Michigan and in Genesee County is funded by the C.S. Mott Foundation, Ruth Mott Foundation, and the Fair Food Network - provides dollar for dollar supplements to Bridge Card holders to purchase fresh Michigan fruits and vegetables at local farmers markets.

The Flint market's contribution to this national pilot is the implementation of cutting edge wireless technology. While Bridge Card holders at other markets around the state use metal or wooden tokens to make their purchases, in Flint they can use a DUFB reward card rather then tokens.  The electronic process is more user friendly for customers and vendors, the market, and foundation donors. The Flint Farmers' Market  is the only market in the nation using this type of technology for a food assistance program.
