If you've never had the opportunity to see Dave Chappelle, now's your chance. The comedian just announced that he'll be doing four shows next week in Michigan. But be prepared to submit to a COVID-19 test, as all audience members will be required to submit to the screening.

The impromptu announcement came today (Monday 8/2) as Detroit's Filmore Theatre prepares for its first post-pandemic shows.

Chappelle will perform two shows next Tuesday, August 10, and one show each day on Wednesday and Thursday, August 11 and 12. Tickets are on sale at Ticketmaster. Click this link for showtimes and to purchase tickets.

In addition to a rapid COVID-19 test, guests will also be asked to relinquish their cellphones, smartwatches, and any other type of audio/video recording equipment.

Chappelle has always been a stickler for not allowing cellphones into his shows. But in the last few years, he's required guests to slip their devices into 'Yondr' pouches which are locked before entering the auditorium. You'll hold onto your phone (in the pouch) through the show, but only be able to unlock it outside the performance area.

After attending one of Dave's shows a few years ago at Flint's Whiting Auditorium, let me share a little unsolicited advice. Leave your damn phone in the car. It's a lot less hassle than dealing with lines and the Yondr pouch.

Ironically, Detroit's Filmore Theatre is where Chappelle left fans highly disappointed in 2015. Many fans referred to the performance as a "drunken catastrophe." Chappelle later admitted that he had smoked pot before the show and said the potency of the marijuana was more than he had been used to.
