Camp Sauble Haunted Prison will return on October 15th, 2022.

As the haunted season is just around the corner, it is time to start planning which haunted your want to visit. One of those options opens in just 45 days. Camp Sauble: Cages of Carnage will open to the public on October 15th, 2022.

Back in 1960, Camp Sauble State Prison opened near Free Soil, which is just northeast of Ludington in Mason County. Later in its' lifetime in 1988, the facility was used as a prison "boot camp" for juveniles in the state. This boot camp was an alternative to those kids going to a real prison.

During its' time as the juvenile boot camp, it was often referred to as the "ice cream camp" due to the nearby ice cream factory that supplied the facility with ice cream. However, Camp Sauble was closed down in 2005. You can still visit this facility though under its new name, Camp Sauble: Cages of Carnage.

In March 1988 Camp Sauble took a new direction, becoming the first Special Alternative Incarceration program in Michigan. Also called Shock Incarceration and Boot camps, these walls house 13 weeks of hell for offenders 18-25, who had never been to prison before and would otherwise be serving 1-5 years in a traditional prison system. Boot camp programs, although stricter than traditional prisons, were designed to keep young offenders out of the prison system, away from hardened criminals and return them as productive members of society.
