Michigan Congressman Dan Kildee has been appointed to serve on the House Budget Committee by the House Democratic Caucus. The new leadership role and appointment for Kildee was announced by House Democratic Leader Nancy Pelosi late Tuesday night.

On the committee, Kildee will be the only member from Michigan's congressional delegation - Democrat or Republican - to serve. Kildee, already a member of the House Financial Service Committee, was granted a waiver by House Democratic Leadership to serve on both committees. The House Financial Services Committee is known as one of five 'exclusive' committees in Congress where its members traditionally serve on just the one.

Ranking Member on the Budget Committee Chris Van Hollen of Maryland says "Kildee has been fighting for Michigan families since the day he got elected and I am thrilled to have him join the fight on the House Budget Committee."

The House Budget Committee has wide authority and is responsible for enacting budget policy and legislative oversight over the nation's budget. Each year the committee is responsible for developing the annual budget resolution to set levels of federal spending.
