The animal advocacy group is arguing for the chimps to be granted a writ of habeas corpus, which for humans says that anyone unlawfully detained should be brought before a judge or into court. Attorneys for the group say the animals should be moved to a larger outdoor sanctuary instead of being caged.

So far, the appeals court has upheld the lower court's ruling to deny the chimps the rights of humans.
