A $1.6 million construction project has begun in Saginaw and Genesee county that will slow things down on I-75 and I-0475 for the next couple of months.

A section of interstate in Saginaw and Genesee county will be shut down until September while construction crews repair 13 miles of concrete.

MDOT began patching up the highways on Tuesday starting at I-75 north from the I-475 north and Birch Run Creek exit.

According to MDOT two lanes will be open during daytime traffic house, but may be reduced to only one lane from 11pm - 5am. Construction work will also require closure of the northbound I-475 ramp overnight occasional as workers repair the road.

MDOT reports the construction will be complete in September.
