The state of Michigan is pretty impressive. It's a large state with amazing sights, the Great Lakes and everything awesome about Michigan itself. That includes the incredible summers, the beautiful fall season, the lengthy winters with plenty to do outdoors, and springtime. Michigan's weather is simple: "just wait a minute" and it can change.

Michigan is a go-to destination for many surrounding states. There are plenty of good reasons why. During the summer months the state gets busier with out-of-town travelers. I think it's great that tourism is huge in our state. It's flattering that others want to come and spend time here and also want to spend their hard-earned money.

According to statista.com, as of 2021, Michigan has a population of 10.05 million people. Our population has increased over the past 61 years by 2.25 million people. I would've figured we would have increased our population by more than that. It's a good thing we can keep our state looking like Michigan in most cases, depending where you live. Urban sprawl is inevitable in some areas.

For those just joining, Detroit is the largest city in Michigan. That's a no brainer. The NFL, MLB, NBA and WNBA don't put major teams in tiny towns, only major markets.

I was curious where Lansing ranked in the top 20 biggest cities in the state of Michigan. I was pleasantly surprised to see that Lansing increased their population.

It's interesting to me to see how different cities grow and shrink by population over time. I was surprised that Lansing's population grew. I definitely thought it would shrink; that's good for Lansing.
