Art Van Elslander, Founder of Art Van Furniture Passes Away at 87 [VIDEO]
Art Van Elslander had been battling cancer for the last year and has now passed at the age of 87. Art Van Elslander opened the first Art Van Furniture store on Gratiot Ave and 10 Mile in 1959. The furniture company now operates over 100 stores in Michigan, Illinois, Ohio, and Indiana.
The Van Elslanders have been known throughout the years as philanthropists, giving donations to multiple charitable organizations. Art Van Elslander was also just named a Crain's Detroit Newsmaker of the Year in 2017.
Art Van Elslander is survived by his 10 children, his wife, his grandchildren, and several great-grandchildren.
