State Representative Jim Ananich (D-Flint) announced today that he is working on legislation that would put at least a thousand more police on the job in Michigan. Ananich, agrees with recent suggestions by Attorney General Bill Schuette, that a substantial portion of additional funding the state has available should be used to help keep our communities safe.

"More police on our streets will help businesses feel safer investing and hiring, students feel safer learning in school, and families feel safer in their homes," said Ananich. "Hopefully, lawmakers on both sides of the aisle will see the value in giving law enforcement the tolls they need to do their job."

Ananich was able to successfully work with the administration, Republicans, and Democrats, last summer to secure enough funding to free up jail space in Genesee County, which allowed for increased State Police efforts. He is the only Genesee County lawmaker who currently serves on the Appropriations Committee.
