Alec Baldwin Sets Sunday Talk Show on ABC With Post-Oscar Preview
It’s official – Alec Baldwin will enter the pantheon of late-night talk shows as early as this Sunday. Following reports of the 30 Rock and SNL star transitioning his podcast into a new series, ABC confirms that Baldwin will headline Sundays With Alec Baldwin, even previewing the series after this year’s Oscars.
According to Deadline, ABC has officially ordered Sundays With Alec Baldwin off the strength of the actor’s radio show and podcast Here’s the Thing with Alec Baldwin. This coming Sunday, March 4, will see ABC airing an 11:35 P.M. post-Oscars sneak-peek of the series with guests Jerry Seinfeld and Kate McKinnon, atop an additional eight-episode order for the coming year. Said Baldwin of the new series:
I’m excited about this show and grateful to ABC for taking a chance on me in what is, admittedly, a crowded field. I’ve enjoyed doing my podcast for WNYC and look forward to the challenge of doing a show on camera.
Added ABC boss Channing Dungey:
Alec’s intellect, wit and wealth of life experience afford him a voice and perspective we haven’t seen before in this format. When we shot the pilot, we knew immediately we had something special that we couldn’t wait to share. We are excited to be working on a series that showcases Alec as one of today’s most compelling conversationalists and highlights the type of intimate discussions that he has captured on his podcast for years.
The former 30 Rock star previously inked an ABC deal to host the unscripted Match Game, having conducted Here’s the Thing interviews since 2011. ABC reportedly targeted Baldwin’s talk show for primetime – even filming five pilot episodes with and without studio audiences – but never found a slot. Stay tuned for more as the weekend brings Baldwin’s return.
