Flint Congressman Dan Kildee is pushing to secure a $7.9 million Staffing for Adequate Fire and Emergency Response (SAFER) grant for firefighters in the City of Flint.

Kildee says receiving the grant with ensure that Flint has the necessary resources to train, retain and recruit firefighters, along with having the necessary life-saving equipment to do their jobs.

In a letter to the House Appropriations Committee Kildee stated "we ask far to many of our firefighters to risk their lives with insufficient staffing, inadequate training and obsolete equipment and we have an obligation to provide them the necessary resources to perform their jobs as safely and effectively as possible. And cities like Flint and Saginaw, communities with extremely challenging fiscal situations, rely on these programs to help provide even the most basic firefighting capabilities."
