A new study reports that popcorn actually contains more healthy antioxidants then fruits and vegetables.

According to Fox News, researchers in Pennsylvania reported that their are 300 mg of healthy antioxidants, or polyphenols, in a serving of popcorn versus 160 mg in a serving of fruit.

Polyphenols have been shown in other studies to boost cardiovascular health and protect against chronic diseases.

Because popcorn is only four percent water, compared to 90 percent water of fruits and vegetables, the concentration of polyphenols is said to be much higher. The study also says that the hulls of popcorn, or the parts that tend to get stuck in people's teeth, has the highest concentration of polyphenols and is a good source of fiber also.
