One of the first things most people do when they get a smartphone or iPad is buy a case to protect it from accidental drops. Cases themselves range from purely decorative to nearly hardhat-industrial — and now one iPad case manufacturer, G-Form, has put its products to the ultimate test.

To demonstrate the energy-absorbing technology used in its line of athletic and electronic protective gear, the company equipped skydivers with iPads in G-Form’s Extreme Edge and Extreme Portfolio sleeves, and then asked the daredevils to drop the devices from 1,300 feet in the air.

While the iPads wound up on grass instead of on concrete as hoped, they landed safely and sustained no damage.
