A Flint teen has been found guilty in the stabbing death of his mother's live-in boyfriend.

According to WNEM, 18-year-old Devonte Pittman was convicted of beating and stabbing 28-year-old Nemya Roberts at the family's residence on Fleming Road near Pasedena in Flint.

Evidence showed Pittmon had earlier consumed alcohol and drugs but was sober at the time of stabbing. He bashed the victim's head into the floor until his mom intervened. Roberts then tried to leave the home but was stabbed to death by Pittmon.

Genesee County Prosecutor David Leyton said "we respect the jury's decision" and "it was a difficult case." Leyton credited Assistant Prosecutor Barney Whitesman for doing "an excellent job with the emotionally charged facts."

Pittmon faces up to 15 years in prison when he is sentenced on July 17th.
