Flint City Councilman Eric Mays is free from custody after posting bond following his sentencing Friday in an impaired driving case. According to NBC 25, Mays only spent a few hours behind bars before posting bond. A circuit court judge granted Mays' request for an appeal bond after District Court Judge Nathaniel Perry sentenced Mays to 72 days in jail and turned down his request to delay the sentence until after an appeal. A jury had found Mays not guilty of operating a vehicle while intoxicated, marijuana possession and refusing to be fingerprinted. They replaced the operating a vehicle while intoxicated charge with driving while impaired. Mays says the sentence handed down on Friday is excessive for a first-time offense.
