Flint-based McLaren Health Care has instituted a no-nicotine policy for those interested in employment with the heath care provider.

According to MLive, all job applicants will now be tested for tobacco use as part of the drug screening process.

In a written statement, Rachelle Hulett, vice president of human resources, said "we have a responsibility to the community and our employees to take a leadership role in promoting healthy behavior."

The policy went into effect on February 1. It applies to all McLaren facilities. At this time, it does not apply to current employees.
