Downtown Flint’s Transformation Looks Pretty Amazing in Google Maps [VIDEO]

With Back to the Bricks just around the corner, let’s take a look at just how much things have changed in Downtown Flint over the years.

If you’ve been in Flint for more than a handful of years, you’re well aware of the ongoing work to revitalize the downtown area. Over the past decade, there have been some pretty amazing additions to the area, including several new restaurants, and, of course, the impressive new Flint Farmers’ Market. Soon-to-be-added to the list are the currently under-renovation Capitol Theatre and Mott’s new culinary institute, which will occupy the currently vacant building on the corner of Saginaw and 2nd streets.

If you’re not familiar with just how far Downtown Flint has come, don’t worry — the progress can be tracked simply via Google Street View. In the video below, we’ve compiled a series of snapshots of Flint from the first trip a Google car strolled through town (September 2008) and their most recent visit (October 2015) and put them into a time-lapse video. The city is still very recognizable from 2008 to 2015, but there are some areas that look so much better. Hopefully,

Hopefully, by the next time the Google Street Car rolls through town they’ll have done something with 600 Saginaw St. It’s a shame that a corner building with such an attention-grabbing look on the busiest stretch of Downtown Flint has remained vacant for as long as it has.
