Lawmakers have introduced a new bill to the House and the Senate that would lower the age to vote from 18 to 16. This law would only affect Michigan residents. The legislators that introduced this bill are hoping to give teenagers a voice. We allow people to work and drive at 16, so should they be allowed to vote too?

Studies have shown that better voting habits are practiced when introduced at a younger age. Remember the first time you could vote? Local or National election I bet you were there! You probably showed up for the first few elections you could vote in, just to exercise your right. As we get older we go away to college, life happens, and we make excuses. According to Vote16USA, voter turnout is higher in the locations where 16 and 17-year-olds can vote.

Lowering the voting age in Michigan will be a somewhat lofty task, the last time the voting age was changed was in 1971 when it dropped from 21 to 18.

I think if you are old enough to work and pay taxes, you should have a say in your future. Do you agree?
