Two-Year Construction Project on I-69 Near Lapeer Starts Next Week

Things are going to be slow-moving on I-69 in Lapeer County starting next week as a major two-year construction project get underway.

Get ready for lots of oranges barrels as the Michigan Department of Transportation is gearing up to start a major two-year project in Lapeer County. The plan is to rebuild more than seven miles of the freeway between M-24 and Lake George Road, just east of Lapeer.

According to ABC12, The $54.5 million project includes rebuilding the pavement from the soil up and replacing the rest area on the eastbound side near Five Lakes Road.

The biggest pain you're going to find with this construction project will be the closure of several ramps along I-69.

Ramp closures:

• Southbound M-24 to eastbound I-69.
• Westbound I-69 to M-24 and Wilder Road.
• Wilder Road to westbound I-69.
• Lake Pleasant Road to westbound I-69.

Apparently, workers will start construction on westbound lanes this summer. That means all westbound traffic will get pushed to the eastbound lanes.

If all goes according to plan, the project should be completed by fall of 2023. However, these projects are rarely completed by their scheduled dates.

It's going be a real pain for me when going to visit my parents who live in Attica Township. I already have to avoid Perry Road in Atlas because of construction which forces me to take I-69 to either Wilder Road or Lake Pleasant Road. Looks like I'm going to have to find an alternate route to their house.
