Stan Van Gundy has been fired as head coach of the Orlando Magic after five season. General Manager Otis Smith was also let go after a six-year tenure with the team.

Center for the Magic, Dwight Howard, was said to have issues with Van Gundy. In April, Van Gunday said in a press conference that Howard had gone to ownership and asked for Van Gundy to be fired in order to re-sign with the team. The all-star Howard is a free agent this summer. He is currently recovering from back surgery in Los Angeles .

The Magic were eliminated in the first round of the NBA playoffs this season. They lost in five games to the Indiana Pacers. According to ESPN, Van Gundy was 259-135 in the regular season and 31-28 in the playoffs.
