A police officer in Prince William County, Va., was shot and killed while responding to a domestic disturbance call during her first day on the job.

Ashley Guindon, 28, and two other officers had arrived at a home in the town of Woodbridge on Saturday night when Ronald Hamilton, 32, began shooting. Guindon died at a hospital, while two other cops remain battling injuries that are not life-threatening.

Hamilton, who also shot and killed his wife, was later arrested. He has been charged with capital murder of a police officer, first-degree murder, malicious wounding of a police officer and use of a firearm in commission of a felony.

Guindon had been sworn in only one day before the fatal shooting. The Prince William County Police Department even tweeted a photo:

The department issued a statement after her death:

The Prince William County Police Department is in deep mourning over the loss of Officer Ashley Guindon. We are asking for thoughts and prayers as we monitor the conditions of the two officers who remain hospitalized. We greatly appreciate the overwhelming support we have received from our Prince William County community and from those across the nation and world. We continue to ask for that support as we move forward with making final arrangements to honor Ashley's sacrifice."

Prince William County's prosecutor said he will most likely push for the death penalty in the case against Hamilton.
