A Grand Blanc Township police officer and a male suspect was shot June 17 when the police responded to a domestic situation.

Michigan State Police Lt. Brian Cold said that two officers were dispatched to a home in the 5000 block of North Georgetown in Grand Blanc Township, where the officers observed a woman being chased by a man with a gun. The officers ordered the man to drop the weapon; the man opened fire on the officers and they returned fire.

Grand Blanc Township police Chief David Stamm said both the officer and suspect are both in good condition at a local hospital following the incident. A second officer at the scene was not injured. The shooting is the first Stamm could recall in the history of the department.

Charges on the suspect are pending his release from the hospital, Cole said. Stamm said the officer will be placed on paid, administrative leave while an investigation is completed by the Michigan State Police.
