Going to the beach may be part of your weekend plans but before you head out, you'll want to double check to make sure your favorite sandy spot isn't closed or under an advisory.

This weekend will definitely be a beach-worthy weekend that is for sure. We'll see the temperature lingering around the mid to upper 80s on Saturday and Sunday.

According to MLive, there are currently 11 Michigan beaches that are either closed or under contamination advisories for unsafe water quality.

Closed Michigan Beaches:

  • Thornapple Lake - Charlton Park, Barry County. This beach has been closed since July 14 due to high bacteria levels from an unknown source.
  •  Sylvan Lake - Sylvan Shores Improvement Association, Oakland County. The beach has since just closed this week (July 27) due to high bacteria levels from wildlife.
  • Island Lake - North Park Beach, Oakland County (homeowners association private-access beach). This beach has been closed since July 27 due to high bacteria levels from wildlife.
  • Independence Lake - Independence Lake County Park, Washtenaw County. Closed since July 27 due to high bacteria levels from an unknown source.
  • Lake St. Clair - St. Clair Shores Memorial Park Beach, Macomb County. This beach just closed yesterday (July 28) due to high bacteria levels from an unknown source.
  • Lake St. Clair - Metropark Beach, Macomb County. This beach also closed yesterday (July 28) due to high bacteria levels from an unknown source.

Michigan Beaches Under Contamination Advisories:

  • Saginaw Bay-Lake Huron - Singing Bridge Beach, Arenac County. Contamination advisory since July 12, due to high bacteria levels from an unknown source.

  •  Houghton Lake - Lakeview Park, Roscommon. Contamination advisory since July 26 due to high bacteria levels from an unknown source.
  • Lake Erie, Sterling State Park, Monroe County. Contamination advisory since July 28 for a harmful algae bloom.

  • Lake Erie, Luna Pier City Beach, Monroe County. Contamination advisory since July 28 for a harmful algae bloom.
