A major furniture retailer has begun liquidation sales as it prepares to close all 89 stores nationwide, months after filing for bankruptcy.

All Michigan Value City Furniture Stores Set to Close

American Signature Inc. announced that all of its Value City Furniture and American Signature Furniture stores will soon close after the company failed to find a buyer for the struggling chain.

The 89 stores in American Signature’s portfolio include 79 Value City Furniture locations, nine of them in Michigan. While the company has not announced a timeline for individual store closures, liquidation sales are already underway at the following Michigan locations:

Value City's Flint location now occupies the former Art Van building, which shut down in March 2020, continuing a streak of turnover at the location as liquidation sales begin.

Timeline of Value City Furniture's Demise

Before filing for bankruptcy in late 2025, Value City Furniture said it planned to shutter four stores in the Nashville, Tennessee, area. American Signature Inc. described the move as part of a broader effort to realign its market presence and focus on stronger-performing regions.

In November of last year, the Columbus, Ohio-based company filed for Chapter 11 bankruptcy and announced plans to close nearly three dozen stores nationwide.

That decision led to the closure of seven Michigan locations, including stores in Ann Arbor, Clinton Township, Dearborn, Lansing, New Baltimore, Novi, and Portage, as previously reported on December 2.

According to the company’s website, going-out-of-business sales will continue at remaining locations while inventory lasts. Warranties on new purchases will still be honored, but Value City Furniture and American Signature stores are no longer accepting gift cards. All sales are final, and returns or exchanges will not be accepted.
