Michigan Lottery Player Could Miss Out on $1M Jackpot

The clock is ticking for a Michigan Lottery player who purchased a winning lottery ticket worth $1 million, but still hasn't cashed in.

The Deadline is Approaching

Winning lottery tickets are only valid for one year from the date of the drawing. The winning ticket was purchased on St. Patrick's Day - March 17, 2023, - so that deadline is quickly approaching.

What Are the Details?

The winning Mega Millions ticket was purchased last March at the CVS Pharmacy, located at 18130 West 10 Mile Rd. in Southfield.

The winning ticket matched the five whit balls drawn. Those numbers are 26, 28, 29, 39, and 49.

Is it yours? According to Michigan Lottery Connect, the lucky (but tardy) ticket holder should contact the Lottery's Player Relations Division at 844-917-6325 to schedule an appointment to collect their prize.

What Happens if the Michigan Lottery Prize Isn't Claimed?

According to the Michigan Lottery, unclaimed jackpot money from expired tickets goes back in to the state's School Aid Fund.

Can Michigan Lottery Winners Stay Anonymous?

Some players who win large lottery jackpots in Michigan request to stay anonymous. But is doing so always an option? That answer is complicated.

Under Michigan law, lottery players who win more than $10,000 in prize money playing state-only games can remain anonymous. However, that rule only applies to state-only games. State-only games in Michigan include scratch-off tickets and Lotto 47.

Games like the Powerball and Mega Millions are multi-state games, however, and come with a different set of rules.
