A Michigan woman is counting her blessings after surviving in the woods for three days after leaving a West Michigan casino and getting lost.

It's unclear if the 74-year-old won or lost while visiting Little River Casino, Michigan, but luck was certainly on her side after she left the casino.

Surviving in the Michigan Woods for Three Days

Nancy Bloomquist left the establishment in Manistee, Michigan around 5:30 pm Thursday (4/4) and authorities assume she had intended to make the 90 mile trek to her home in Norton Shores. Manistee is located on Michigan's west side, about 25 miles north of Ludington.

Mason County Sheriff Kim Cole tells WZZM-TV that Bloomquist became lost and wound up on a long, two-track driveway in a heavily wooded area. Her car caught on fire and she had left her phone in the vehicle.

Cole notes that the it was "just blind luck" that the seasonal homeowner came home on Sunday afternoon (4/6) to find the car on the property.

Authorities began searching for Bloomquist and found her about 350 feet from her vehicle late Sunday night.

Woman Survives in Woods, Battling Weather

Bloomquist says she lay down between two trees in order to escape the rain that came Thursday night. Temperatures got down to 27 degrees that night and in the morning she was unable to get up because she was so cold.

She was found lying between the trees Sunday night when a drone spotted her.

"So it's, she's incredibly, incredibly lucky she's still alive," the sheriff said.

Bloomquist was treated for exposure at a nearby hospital.
