USA Today set out to find the Best Main Streets Across the United States. Relying on expert and travel suggestions, they narrowed it down and put the vote to those who "know" these charming locations best...the public.

"Main streets across the United States are experiencing a renaissance. Once abandoned and boarded up as people shifted to the suburbs, these iconic thoroughfares are now thriving", USA Today wrote. "These 10 places with charming main streets — nominated by an expert panel and voted by readers as the best in the U.S. — offer more than just a road; these streets are living history, have a vibrant culture, and serve as the hearts of their communities."

Taking the top spot on the list of the Top 10 most idyllic main street scenarios in the nation, the charming town with a population of about 10,0000, Howell won over American voters. Here's what USA Today had to say about the city which established its first post office in 1836.

"Grand River Avenue, the main street in Howell, is home to numerous historic buildings that now house a variety of unique shops and local eateries. This street is where you'll find the Howell Opera House, as well as the popular 2FOG's Pub."
