Michigan School District Pleads With Parents To Stop Smoking Pot

A school district in Michigan is pleading for a certain group of people to stop smoking pot, and ironically it's not the students.

Even though both medical and recreational marijuana are legal in the state of Michigan for adults 21 and over, there are obvious restrictions on where you can smoke pot. You can't smoke cannabis or cigarettes in most restaurants or retail locations. You certainly can't smoke either at church. And I didn't think you could smoke at most schools.

If you're over the age of 21 when you're in your own vehicle, I didn't think it was a big deal. I'm not gonna lie, I've snuck out to my car during a Friday night varsity game for a quick cigarette break.

I also had a medical marijuana prescription in the past for back pain and have gone out to indulge to relieve pain under the Friday night lights. But what about during morning or afternoon student drop-offs and pick-ups?

Apparently there so many parents that have been either dropping off or picking up their kids while smoking pot that a Michigan school district is asking for it to stop. Apparently after a day of educating young minds they don't want students with parents who don't smoke the Devil's lettuce to walk out into a clam bake on their way out of school.

Apparently Superintendent Jim Neilsen of the Orchard View School District made it clear that it is illegal and sent out a message to remind parents who have been toking in the school's parking lot.

The message stated: 'I am reaching out to address a concern that has recently come to our attention, and although it's not a message I expected to write as a school administrator, I feel it is a message that needs to be sent. As the weather warms up and more windows are rolled down during school drop-off and pick-up, we've received multiple reports of a strong odor of marijuana coming from vehicles on school property. Orchard View School is a drug-free zone, and the possession or use of marijuana on school grounds is strictly prohibited.'
