Michigan’s Floating Hot Dog Stand Is Serving Up Summer Fun

If you’re looking for a sign that Michigan summers can get a little weird in the best possible way, look no further than Devils Lake in Lenawee County.

Michigan Floating Food Truck Takes Hot Dogs To The Sandbar

Eric Funk grew up on the lake and runs a hot dog food truck called Funky Dawgs LLC. But he had an idea: Why should people have to leave the sandbar to get a hot dog? So Funk took the chassis from a 1992 Chevrolet box van, mounted it onto the deck of a pontoon boat, and created Wieners on the Water.

The floating food truck made its maiden voyage in July 2025 according to MLive, and it has apparently become quite the attraction at Devils Lake.

From around Memorial Day through Labor Day, Funk heads out onto the lake most weekends, anchors at the sandbar and starts serving lunch. The menu includes hot dogs, chips, pop and merchandise.

There’s the classic old-school dog with ketchup, mustard and relish, a Mac Dog topped with macaroni and cheese, bacon bits and barbecue sauce, and the “Funky Dog,” which is essentially a Coney dog with chili, mustard and onions.

And apparently, business is pretty darn good. Funk says they leave the dock around noon, reach the sandbar at about 12:30 p.m., and are often completely sold out by 4:30. That means more than 250 hot dogs can disappear during a single weekend afternoon.

Wieners On The Water Is A Very Michigan Summer Experience

Honestly, it’s hard to imagine a more Michigan summer experience than sitting on a sandbar, hanging out on the lake and having a hot dog delivered by a floating food truck. Funk says the idea started simply because he wanted to serve hot dogs where people were already having fun. Turns out, that was a pretty great idea.
