Federal prosecutors say 29-year-old John Sebastian Quintero-Herrera was sentenced to nearly six years behind bars after leading what investigators describe as a sophisticated operation. This wasn’t a one-off situation. The group hit at least 20 homes across multiple states, including Michigan, and walked away with more than $1.5 million in cash and valuables.

Authorities say the group wasn’t randomly picking houses. They targeted small business owners they believed might be keeping cash or expensive items at home. The way they carried out the crimes is what really stands out.

How The Group Used GPS And Surveillance To Track Victims

Investigators say they used GPS trackers and hidden cameras to monitor their victims. In some cases, they cut power to homes before breaking in. Once inside, they didn’t just take items and leave. Homes were completely torn apart, with slashed mattresses, belongings thrown everywhere, and personal items like passports and important documents taken.

Six other people were involved. Most have already been sentenced, with prison terms ranging from two to more than seven years. One suspect remains at large. The investigation stretched across eight states and involved more than 20 law enforcement agencies, including Flint Township Police according to ABC 12.

Victims Left With More Than Just Financial Loss

In court, a judge compared the operation to something out of a movie, calling it “Ocean’s Eleven-style,” but also made it clear the reality for victims was far from entertaining. Many were left dealing with not just financial loss, but the feeling that their home is no longer a safe place.
