Limo Bus Rollover Injures Michigan Kids Headed to Cedar Point
A trip meant to bring hope and inspiration to young people from Detroit took a heartbreaking turn on I-75 in Monroe County. A limo bus carrying members of the city’s Community Violence Intervention Program crashed and rolled several times Thursday evening, sending eleven passengers, many of them teenagers, to area hospitals.
A Trip Meant to Inspire Turns Heartbreaking
Michigan State Police say the crash happened around 5:45 p.m. near Nadeau Road, as the group was on its way to Cedar Point. For reasons still unknown, the bus veered off the highway and overturned multiple times. Several passengers were thrown from the vehicle during the violent rollover.

Fifteen people were onboard. Eleven were rushed to hospitals across the region, one person remains in critical condition, two others are seriously injured, and eight more are recovering from minor injuries. Authorities say the 69-year-old Detroit man behind the wheel told investigators he has no memory of what happened.
Company Operating Bus Wasn’t Authorized
Police have confirmed that the driver did not have the proper license to operate the limo bus, nor a valid Department of Transportation medical certificate. To make matters worse, investigators learned the company operating the bus wasn’t authorized to transport passengers at all. The driver now faces multiple citations, including operating without the correct license designation and careless driving. Officials say drugs or alcohol do not appear to be involved, but the investigation continues.
Police Continue Investigation into Cause
The freeway was closed for several hours as first responders and investigators worked the chaotic scene. What makes this crash even more tragic is who was on that bus. These were young people working to make a difference in their community, taking part in a program designed to steer them away from violence and toward brighter opportunities. A day that should have been filled with laughter and excitement turned into a nightmare, one that will leave emotional scars long after the physical wounds heal.

Our hearts go out to the victims, their families, and everyone affected by this devastating crash. Anyone who witnessed the incident or has information is urged to contact the Michigan State Police Monroe Post at 734-242-3500.
