More Frozen Ground Beef Recalled Due to Contamination Concerns
After two major meat recalls had consumers scrambling in the last few months of last year, 2025 begins with another recall, this time due to contamination concerns.
The US Department of Agriculture's Food Safety and Inspection Service is issuing a recall for raw and frozen ground beef products that may contaminated with foreign material.
Details of the Recall
The frozen, raw ground beef products were produced on December 10, 2024. According to the FSIS announcement, the products are no longer on shelves but consumers are asked to check their freezers for products that may have been purchased in the last month.
Check for vacuum-sealed packages from Turner Farm weighing approximately one pound. The packages contain "Stockyards Packing Company Ground Beef" and lot code 241210.
So far, the FSIS has received one customer complaint, stating that pieces of hard plastic and hard metal contaminants were found in the raw ground beef product. However, no injuries to consumers have been reported.
Previous Meat Recalls
In November last year, 167,000 pounds of ground beef shipped nationwide from a Michigan packaging plant were recalled due to E. Coli contamination.
A massive recall was extended in October to include nearly 10 million pounds of ready-to-eat meat and poultry products sold at retailers in Michigan and throughout the United States.
That recall, due to possible listeria contamination was deemed a Class I Health Hazard meaning that use of the products could result in serious and adverse health consequences or death, according to the USDA.
