Heartbreak in Goodrich as Longtime Announcer Dan Sellers Dies After Sideline Collapse
The Goodrich community is heartbroken after the sudden loss of a man who meant so much to so many. Dan Sellers, the longtime voice of the Goodrich Martians and a beloved mentor to generations of students, passed away on Saturday after collapsing on the sidelines during the Goodrich vs. Dearborn Divine Child playoff game.
A Sudden Collapse on the Sidelines
Witnesses say Dan went down without warning in the final seconds of the game. People rushed to help immediately, performing CPR and using an AED on the sideline. Those efforts were described as potentially life-saving in the moment, but despite everything done for him on the field and later at the hospital, Dan passed away a short time afterward. It was a terrifying and heartbreaking scene for everyone there.
Heartbreak From Those Who Knew Him Best
Head Coach Tom Alward, who knew Dan for decades, called him 'the voice of the Martians,' remembering him not only as a gifted announcer but as a former teacher, JV coach, and a constant presence in Goodrich athletics. 'He comes to everything,' Alward said, and for so many, that was exactly who Dan was. Always there. Always cheering. Always supporting.

Dan announced football and basketball games, taught in the district, coached multiple sports, and poured endless encouragement into the students who looked up to him. His kindness and energy reached far beyond the press box.
The Community’s Outpouring of Love
Goodrich Area Schools said they were 'heartbroken,' praising his dedication and the compassion he shared with generations of students. The Goodrich Martians Football program called him a legend and a leader, adding that while his voice echoed through the stadium, his impact echoed even louder through the lives he touched.
