Dance, Dine, Discover: Flint’s Monthly Summer Festival
Most Americans don't celebrate the first day of summer as June 20th or 21st, depending on the year. Generally we all attend a parade or a ceremony then fire up the grill and maybe light a bonfire while playing backyard games with family and friends.
But a less-known tradition is in fact well-known to many Mid-Michiganders who love food, music and art. And they love that party trifecta when it's local DJs, artists and chefs.

Featuring local musicians and artists and an awesome array of great eats, Vinyl Vibes is organized by Emily Doerr who noticed a gap in Flint's summer calendar. She said, 'Looking at the calendar, there is stuff going on the first and second Fridays, but there’s not really anything on the last Friday of the month.'
A Dance Party with Local Offerings from Restaurants and Artists
According to Doerr, she approached the leader of a church in Downtown Flint and said, 'I want to throw a dance party right in front of your plaza.' And that's where it all began.

It's terrible when you hear about a great event after the fact. But after a great kickoff to the series last Friday, you can still make plans to attend one of the Vinyl Vibes events the last Friday of each month through August.
