Ed Sheeran Just Crashed a Michigan Karaoke Night

As a huge fan of karaoke, and a proud former Maxie’s karaoke host, I love stories like this. Ed Sheeran was in Detroit Wednesday night, and apparently decided that being one of the biggest musicians on the planet didn't mean he was above grabbing a microphone at a local karaoke night.

Ed Sheeran Makes Surprise Detroit Karaoke Appearance

Sheeran was making a stop in Detroit between shows when he visited Sakazuki, a Japanese restaurant in the city according to MLive. That's where karaoke was happening upstairs, hosted by Kristen Sarver of Fusion Entertainment.

One of the regulars, Kevin Reedy, heard that Sheeran was downstairs having dinner with his wife. And, apparently after a little liquid courage, Kevin decided to do what any brave karaoke enthusiast would do: Go sing near Ed Sheeran and see what happened. What happened next was pretty incredible.

Sheeran eventually made his way upstairs and joined Kevin for a performance of his own hit, “Thinking Out Loud.” I mean... WHAT?

Detroit Karaoke Turns Into an Ed Sheeran Concert

Imagine going out for karaoke, grabbing the microphone, and suddenly you're standing next to Ed freaking Sheeran singing one of Ed Sheeran's biggest songs. That's the kind of karaoke story you tell for the rest of your life.

And let's be honest, this could have gone very differently. Think about how easy it would be for someone at Sheeran's level to politely say no, stay downstairs, finish dinner and leave. Instead, he walked upstairs and sang karaoke with a regular guy in Detroit. That's pretty damn cool.

And Kevin deserves some credit, too. It takes a special kind of courage to walk up and start singing next to Ed Sheeran. Honestly, I'm not sure there's enough liquid courage in Michigan for most people to attempt that. But if Ed Sheeran is holding the other microphone? Maybe.
