13-Year-Old Michigan Boy Accused of Shooting Father Arrested in Ohio

A 13-year-old Michigan boy is in custody in Ohio after police say he shot his own father and then took off in his dad’s car.

13-Year-Old Detroit Boy Arrested in Ohio After Father Shot

Police say it happened Tuesday around 5 p.m. at a home on Bretton Drive near Grand River and Southfield on Detroit’s west side.

Investigators say the shooting happened during what they’re calling a disciplinary dispute between the boy and his father. Police allege the teenager shot his dad twice in the back, then grabbed the keys to his father’s 2026 Rivian SUV and took off.

And he apparently didn’t leave alone. Police say the family dog was also in the vehicle. The teenager was eventually tracked to Ohio, where police took him into custody. Another person who was in the Rivian was also arrested.

The father survived and was taken to a hospital. Police say he was expected to recover, although there’s no word yet on his current condition.

Neighborhood Shaken After Michigan Shooting

And this one has left the neighborhood pretty shaken. A neighbor told WWJ the family had only moved onto the block within the last year. She also had a message for the teenager, saying she hopes he’ll eventually confront what happened and the consequences that come with it.

The 13-year-old was expected to be extradited back to Detroit Wednesday to face a judge. There are still a lot of questions about what exactly happened inside that house and what led up to the shooting. Police say the investigation is ongoing.
