Mid-Michigan Crash Leaves 8-Month-Old Dead, Family Seriously Hurt

A devastating crash in Mid-Michigan has left a family shattered and a community in mourning. Police say an 8-month-old child died after a violent rear-end crash Thursday afternoon in Richfield Township, on a stretch of road many people around Davison travel every day.

Deadly Crash on M-15 Near Davison

According to the Richfield Township Police Department, the crash happened around 3:45 p.m. on M-15 at Clark Road, just north of Davison. Investigators say a 29-year-old Richfield Township woman was driving a Jeep Patriot with her three young children inside. She had stopped along M-15 and was waiting to make a left turn onto Clark Road.

That is when police say a Chevrolet utility truck driven by a 49-year-old man from Taylor slammed into the back of the Jeep. According to ABC 12, the impact left everyone inside the Jeep seriously injured.

Mother and Three Young Children Seriously Hurt

The mother and her three children, ages 4, 2, and just 8 months old, were rushed to the hospital with severe injuries. Tragically, the infant later died at Hurley Medical Center. Authorities say the two surviving children remained hospitalized early Friday, one listed in critical condition while the other was reported to be stable.

The children's mother also remained hospitalized, though officials have not released details about her condition. The driver of the utility truck suffered only minor injuries and was treated at the scene before being released.

Investigation Ongoing in Richfield Township

Investigators with the Davison Area Reconstruction Team are continuing to piece together exactly what happened in the moments leading up to the crash. At this point, police say they do not believe intoxication played a role.
