Daddy & Me: Michigan Father + Son Win Huge Powerball Prize
The apple doesn't fall far from the tree. A father and son duo from Michigan has a lot to celebrate after snagging a big Powerball prize from the Michigan Lottery.
Gary and Tim Mallet from Macomb County matched four white balls in the August 26 drawing. This netted the father-son pair a $50,000 prize - but thanks to the Power Play, their prize was tripled to $150,000.
A Little Assistance, Please
Gary Mallet tells the Lottery that he and his son checked their ticket the morning after the drawing at the Harper Gas Station in Saint Clair Shores, where they had purchased the ticket. They didn't recognize the message they got from the ticket scanner, so they asked the clerk for help.
We asked the clerk to scan the ticket and she used the Lottery’s app to find out how much we’d won," he said. "She scanned the ticket and then dropped her phone and said, 'You won $150,000!' We couldn’t believe it and told her to ‘Quit pulling our legs!'"
Big Plans for the Money
Gary and Tim formed the G & T Players Club. They visited Michigan Lottery headquarters to collect their winnings, and say they plan to use the money to pay bills, complete some home repair projects, and save the the rest.
"Winning is unreal and so hard to believe. It couldn’t have come at a better time!" said Mallet.
